Why is the web 10MB?

I tried to load a simple recipe site today. It took 4 seconds. I opened the DevTools network tab and saw it: 3.5MB of JavaScript.

The State of the Web

We used to build entire operating systems on 1.44MB floppy disks. Now, we need 5MB just to render a "Sign Up" modal?

I miss raw HTML. I miss when a website was just text and a few images.

Manifesto:

1. If it can be CSS, don't use JS.
2. If it can be HTML, don't use CSS.
3. Reject modernity, embrace <marquee>.

System load: 99% CPU just to display this text.
